Reusing spools

I”m still pulling on this thread, but from what I have learned so far is that thread came on wooden spools beginning about 1820. These spools could be returned for a deposit and be refilled. I have an addiction to nice scissors…or at least they keep following me home. These Pius XII (1939-1958) souvenir scissors live in one of my needlework bags and needed a little protection.
