With the weather change I made a banana bread, with pecans and cranberries. I only needed about a 1/3rd-1/2 cup of chopped pecans which I could easily do with a knife. But I keep the Androck nutmill in the cupbard next to the jar of pecans, so there’s no reason not to give it a shot.
What I found is that the whole pecans don’t catch on the teeth as well as broken ones, and indeed it takes a longer to do a small amount. However it is a dandy solution if you have a lot of nuts to chop or some small hands that need some busywork.
What I also found out, is that my OLDER version, doesn’t break down completely for cleaning as most of the later ones do. Usually the front slides up and the screen slides out for cleaning, mine is a very early 1935 model, and the screen doesn’t slide out. 8( so one needs a paintbrush to clean the tines. But it still works and doesn’t chop too small or too large.
1 stick margarine softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs beaten
3 large black bananas, mashed
2 cups flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp vanilla extract
pinch of salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup chopped dried cranberries
Cream margarine and sugar together
Add eggs and bananas
Sift flour and soda together into batter
Stir in remaining ingredients
Bake 350 for 50 minutes.
