A quick scissor sheath

I have an addiction to nice scissors…or at least they keep following me home. These Pius XII (1939-1958) souvenir scissors live in one of my needlework bags and needed a little protection. It’s little ears indicate it probably came with a sheath, so I figure I would whip up another one with a scrap of leather and some Cheerio’s cardboard.

I wasn’t looking for fancy, just functional. so I sketched it out on the cardboard and taped it together in about 15 minutes.

Then I preglued the leather swatch with Barge cement. The trick it to use very little and wait a minute until it gets tacky….if the glue is oozing you used too much. Note the notch on one side to make it easier to find the entrance.

After fitting it around the cardboard, I let it dry for a bit and then just trimmed the excess. This leather just happened to be a little thinner than the cardboard. If it had been thick, I would have had to thin the edges a bit. I don’t intend to decorate it, but I do expect to spend the rest of my life trying to find it in the bottom of the knitting bag.
